Maytag Recalls 1.7 Million Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports, that Maytag recalls 1.7 Million Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard. Consumers that have a Maytag dishwasher should first see whether their dishwasher is on the list. In order to see if your model is included in the Maytag dishwasher recall locate the serial number on the inside of the dishwasher's plastic tub, to the left of the door opening. Just open the door and you will see the serial number sticker on the left side.

If your Dishwasher is on the list, you should stop to use the product immediately. Maytag has received twelve reports of dishwasher heating element failures that resulted in fires and dishwasher damage, including one report of extensive kitchen damage from a fire.

No injuries have been reported.So far no injuries resulting from the overheating dishwashers have been reported. To report an injury or incident involving a Maytag dishwasher, visit and file a Consumer Product Incident Report.

The affected Maytag dishwashers have been sold at department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide from February 2006 through April 2010 for between $250 and $900.

An electrical failure in the Maytag dishwasher’s heating element can pose a serious fire hazard and the product is no longer considered save to use.

The recall includes Maytag®, Amana®, Jenn-Air®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand dishwashers with plastic tubs and certain serial numbers. The affected dishwashers were manufactured with black, bisque, white, silver and stainless steel front panels.

The brand name is printed on the front of the dishwasher. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located inside the plastic tub on a tag near the left side of the door opening. Serial numbers will start or end with one of the following sequences.
