Friday June 4th the first phone in the United States to run on a 4G network is being launched. The whole 4G thing is kind of made up, the phone companies just decide to call it fourth generation because it sounds cooler than the older 3G.

The phone that is being released is the Evo 4G. The phone is manufactured by the Taiwanese company HTC. The mobile device runs on Google's Android operating system. This phone will be able to directly compete with the Apple iPhone. Its large and detailed display and its astoundingly fast hardware will force Apple to hurry up in releasing their new iPhone 4G.

Sprint launched its 4G network in Chicago in November of last year. The 4G network is designed to deliver mobile connections with the speed and reliability of a broadband network. The 4G network is designed for the digital era that is full of data-intense activities that include streaming HD video, online gaming, multi tasking internet applications etc.

The Evo has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display as well as two cameras. This was the thing that made me the most happy. I love having a good camera with me where ever I may go and this phone has two. It has one front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera. This camera is designed for webcam videoconferencing etc. And, then there is an 8-megapixel camera on the back! This rear-facing camera has the ability to shoot high definition video.

It also has a 1GHz processor, proximity and motion sensors, GPS navigation, a digital compass and much more.

As Sprint rolls out its 4G network to more an more cities, more phones like the Evo are expected to be released soon as well. Maybe, in the near future, other devices such as tablet PCs, digital cameras and netbooks will be able to work on 4G networks. This would be great as it would enable internet users from all around the world to improve their network access as well as improve the overall Internet speeds and reliability a lot.

PCMag reported that there are already some bugs, but these are only software related and can be fixed by downloading an upgrade.

This HTC Evo 4G phone is a milestone for the new 4G network and I hope for Apple's sake that they come out with their iPhone 4G soon!

The Sprint EVO 4G phone is on sale today at Sprint stores for $199 after a $100 mail-in-rebate, with a new contract, and a premium data plan. At Wal-mart and Best Buy, you can get the phone directly for $199 without sending in the rebate form (which will be forgotten by most consumerds anyhow). Supplies in stores are limited and it could happen that you will receive your new HTC Evo 4G phone via mail in a couple days. So, ordering the new phone online might be your best bet.

  1. Only things of issue are one.) alarm clock got no pop up to dismiss or snooze the first time I used it. It's been great since then but wow- that was interesting. Had to turn it off to end the song! 2.) One day, all my imported (at Sprint store) contacts disappeared. Only the ones I had hand loaded directly remained. I lost ~ 113 names, numbers that I have no plan how to get back. They are not in my gmail or anything..
