"Apple plans to begin mass producing such a phone by the end of this year," is said in one story titled "The Verizon iPhone: How Many Would Switch?". This story was published October 6, 2010, 5:07 PM ET.
The interesting part is, that this story cites another story "Apple Making Verizon-Ready iPhone by Year End", which was published on OCTOBER 6, 2010, 5:17 P.M. ET. Both stories were published on the same day on the same web site.
While it could be that the story that was referenced just happened to be updated later, it still looks a little strange. Especially as nothing could be verified. "Spokeswomen for Apple and Qualcomm declined to comment; a spokesman for Verizon Wireless, owned by Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC, declined to comment."
Based on all the data it looks like the Verizon iPhone is still wishful thinking on the part of the authors.

But all the noise can't convince me that it is just a rumor.
