Gold fell aggressively on Tuesday, covering a $43 dollar range. It closed out the day at 1335.80. December Gold (GCZ0) currently trades at 1338.20.

The overall trend remains up. That means now might be a good time to stock up on physical gold.

One of the safest ways to own physical gold is to buy American Eagle gold coins. They are highly liquid and can be easily bought and sold.

Here is an example:

You could for example buy 50 1/10 ounce 2010 Gold Eagles. They have a face value of $5 and come in a Mint tube. There are only so many coins produced in 2010. If you buy your coins while the prices are low, they will appreciate faster in value.

If 50 coins are beyond your current budget, you can opt for 5. That still gives you a good price:

There is actually another way to buy gold coins. Instead of buying bullion gold coins, you can buy rare coins. Rare coins does not actually mean that they are really rare. But they are definitively limited.

You can for example get $5 Indian Gold Coins which were graded as MS 63 by PCGS. These coins have a limited mintage and tend to appreciate in value somewhat independent from the gold price
