Dow Jones Industrial Average Up

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finishes up for the month of October. That means that almost all the losses of the prior months have been regained. With 11,118.49 points the Dow Jones is not back in the range where it was trading in May 2010.

The NASDAQ Composite did not do much during the day. Volatility yes, but basically flat for the day. On a monthly basis the technology heavy index is up close to six percent.

The S&P 500 was down a bout half a point, but for the month of October it finishes up almost four percent.

Overall the stock market does not look that bad anymore. Maybe, maybe the economy is getting back on its feet. At least the economy is growing and not retracting.

Forecasts from companies overall look more optimistic. Mid term elections and the Fed meeting will definitely be very interesting for the stock market.

Jim Lowell, the owner of Fidelity Investor, said: "Wednesday stocks could move 5% or 10% in either direction, depending on the voting and how the Fed speaks out."

Gold Starts With a Jump Up

Update 5:15 pm EST: The closing price for gold today was $1,357.36. With this gold is up $15.26 or 1.14% for the day.



Update 2:21 pm EST: The price for gold is now at $1,357.27 per ounce. That is 1.13% or $15.08 more than the opening price today. That means, at least for the last 1 1/2 hour, gold is trading in this high range. We might see some profit taking before the end of the day.

The highest gold price close so far was $1,376.70 on October 14.

Update 1:38 pm EST: The price for gold is now at $1,357.12 per ounce. That is 1.12% or $15.02 more than the opening price today.

In early morning trading in New York the gold price jumped to $1,349.92 an ounce, but subsequently went back to $1,345 an ounce. It is too early to establish a trend.

The Federal Reserve meeting is seen as an important factor for the gold prices. The Fed's alleged plans for monetary easing could prompt money to flow into gold.

Monetary easing is a nice word for creating money out of nothing. The economy is manipulated long enough that everybody agrees that it is best to print some more money. Actually in this case it is not printed, the Fed just credits its own account with money that was not there before. The Fed then uses the new found riches to buy government bonds and mortgage backed securities.

But Swiss bank UBS said, based on a report from earlier today by Matthew Walls from WSJ:

"Gold prices already reflect expectations of a smaller quantitative easing program than they did a week ago, although there is a risk that gold could be further sold off next week."

"Should [quantitative easing] disappoint heavily, and risk assets be sold, gold will also tumble," UBS said in a report Friday. "We still believe that a brief look towards $1,300 an ounce is likely, but short-lived."

The gold prices are already reflecting all known data. The U.S. Fed is not the only factor that influences gold. The prices above are for spot gold, not for gold coins. Gold bullion coins are usually bought and sold for prices close to the spot price for gold, while numismatic or rare coins are somewhat independent from these gold prices.

The gross domestic product (GDP) or gross domestic income (GDI) is a measure of a country's overall economic output. It is the market value of all final goods and services made within the borders of a country in a year. It is often positively correlated with the standard of living,  alternative measures to GDP for that purpose.

The GDP is closely related to monetary policy. Printing money will increase the GDP (on paper). Also, the GPD is used by the Fed as a measure whether or not it is necessary (or possible) to play around with the money supply.

The LA Times reports:

"GDP rises slightly to 2% in sign that economy remains sluggish".

This is in line with right in line with analysts' forecasts and expectations. That means that the consensus is that the Fed will be issuing more money to buy bonds.

Mariah Carey Made Big Announcement Today: Yes, Pregnant

Maria Carey made the big announcement today. And yes, it is true, she is pregnant.

She does not want to reveal when exactly she is expecting the baby, but it should be in March 2011.

She does not know whether it is going to be a boy or a girl. She wants to be surprised.

And all the rumors that something happened artificially are not true. She conceived naturally and Nick is the father.

There were rumors floating around for months. Now the truth came out that Mariah Carey, the pop star and her husband Nick Cannon are going to have a baby.

All this was revealed today on the morning show where they both appeared and gave an interview.

Gold Price Moves up Nicely

5:19 pm EST: Gold has been trading above $1,340 most of the day and with that has been erasing the losses from the last few days. As of 5:19 pm EST the price for 1 ounce of gold was $1,343.74, $21.54 or 1.63% up for the day.

This is the first time in three days that gold gained. Bloomberg comments on this: "The dollar fell as much as 1.3 percent against a basket of six currencies on speculation that any Federal Reserve program to buy back government assets will debase the U.S. currency. Gold has climbed 7.6 percent since Sept. 1, reaching a record $1,388.10 an ounce on Oct. 14, while the greenback has dropped 6.4 percent."

Thursday’s rally “is really a testament to the ability of gold to come back,” said Jim Steel, an analyst with HSBC in New York to marketwatch.com.

The Federal reserve board is scheduled to hold a two-day policy meeting next week, which is expected to have an effect on the gold price. If some monetary easing would be signaled, gold is expected to move higher.

The price of gold has climbed 2 1/2% in October and 22 percent total in 2010. Gold was up the last nine years in a row.

The gold price has been moving up nicely during the day in New York. As of 1:19 pm EST the price per ounce was $1,342.50, up $20.30 or 1.50% today.

The lowest price to day was $1,320.87 and the high for the day was $1,345.05 per ounce.

The price for gold bounced back from yesterday's lows amid renewed weakness of the U.S. dollar. These prices are for spot gold, not for gold coins. The prices for bullion gold coins are closely connected to the spot gold price, but do not exactly follow the gold price immediately. The prices for rare gold coins are usually not directly connected to the gold price.

As goldalert.com reports, several of the world's largest gold mining companies reported production figures from their last quarter. During that quarter the gold price advanced from $1,197 on June 30 to a new all-time high of more than $1,300 per ounce by the end of September:

"Barrick Gold(ABX), the world’s largest gold producer, reported quarterly production of 2.06 million ounces and reiterated its full-year production forecast of 7.65 – 7.85 million ounces.  Goldcorp (GG), the second largest gold company by market capitalization, produced 596,200 ounces at reaffirmed its guidance of 2.55 million ounces for the full year.  Angico-Eagle Mines (AEM), another of the largest gold miners based in Canada, achieved record gold production of 285,178 ounces in the quarter, and also reaffirmed its full-year forecast of 1.0 – 1.1 million ounces."

Diamonds.net reports, that Juan Carlos Artigas, investment research manager for the World Gold Council, said: "While the path to sustained economic growth remains uncertain, G10 currency markets have recovered from the low levels experienced around the sovereign debt crisis and their currencies have appreciated against the U.S. dollar. At the same time, after an initial recovery, the U.S. labor market has turned dormant and the outlook for the dollar remains negative."

Gold Coin Sales by US Mint Dropped in the Wake of Gold Price Declines

Coinupdate.com reports, that last week the US Mint recorded drop off in sales proof gold coins. The Gold price recently came off it's all time high of $1,386 per ounce. This decline prompted investors to hold off with their orders until it is clear where the market is heading.

The U.S. Mint sell a lot of coins to dealers. The US Mint recorded sales of 2,107 of the one ounce 2010 Proof Gold Eagle coins, which was about half of what they sold one week earlier. With a total of 21,302 of these coins sold, 85.2% of the product limit has been reached. That means in a few weeks the U.S Mint will cease to sell the 2010 Proof Gold Eagle coins.

These coins are by the way suitable for a gold IRA account.

If you intend to invest in gold or gold coins, you have to think long term, which the chart below illustrates nicely.

As nimemsn.com.au reports, Mariah Carey said that she is going to give a big announcement tomorrow in front of cameras. It will be on the Today show. Mariah Carey has long been rumored to be pregnant. Some paper reported that she just gained a little weight from eating too much. Several web sites posted pictures that supposedly showed her with a growing belly.

But maybe it were just some photoshop experts that tried to show off their skills.

Anyhow, tomorrow you should know more. According to her husband Nick Cannon, Mariah has said that the announcement will “enlighten people” as to what's going on, and that the baby rumors and speculation have become “too much” for her.

That sounds like she might not be pregnant after all...

Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970 and  is an American  Pop/R&B singer-songwriter, record producer and actress.She came out with her first record in 1990, which promptly landed in the top 100.

New Batman Film: The Dark Knight Rises

A new Batman film is about to be filmed. The title of the film is "The Dark Knight Rises". Christopher Nolan is the producer of the new Batman film.

Christopher Nolan was born on 30 July 1970 and is a British-American film director, writer  and producer. He is known for bringing the batman film franchise back to life. Other films he had his hands in: The Prestige, Inception, a remake of Insomnia.

The film is slated to hit the cinemas in 2012. The LA Times reported, that the new Batman film will not be filmed in 3D, but rather using high-definition IMAX cameras.

Currently it is not clear who the villain is going to be. Edward Nigma, the green-suited Riddler, was rules out by Nolan.

White iPhone 4 Delayed Until Spring 2011

Apple has further delayed the delivery of the iPhone 4 until spring 2011, as PC Mag reports. Apple did not give any details on why they are pushing the release further back again. There were already three release dates that were all later revised.

Just yesterday boygeniusreport.com showed that the white iPhone 4 was already added to the Apple store app, giving you the option to reserve the white device. But if you wanted to actually buy or reserve the phone, you would get a message that it's not currently available. The option was later removed from the app store.

"We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone yet again, but we've decided to delay its release until this spring",  Apple commented to CNN on the situation.

When the iPhone 4 was initially announced in June this year, the company said you could have the gizmo in black or white. The white iPhone 4 was then delayed and then the white iPhone 4 was delayed until later this year.

The exact reason has not been stated by Apple. Earlier this year Apple said regarding the white iPhone 4 models, that they are "more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected." There are rumors that several suppliers can't get the exact shade of white correct. The parts of the white iPhone 4 are delivered by different suppliers and one of them does not match the color of the other. Maybe they should start to make the pink iPhone 4. It would certainly be an instant hit among the young girls.

Or is this another PR stunt from Apple: "Let's make them talk without spending a dime." Through not delivering the white iPhone 4 Apple has probably saved millions in advertising money and sold twice as many regular iPhone 4's. If you look at the white iPhone 4 from a marketing standpoint, you can learn a lot:

Just hint that there might be another color in the future and then delay that color, giving the media something to yap on in the meantime. But don't try this at home, meaning in your own company, as it might backfire badly if done wrong.

Barnes and Noble Takes on Apple with Nook Color

Barnes & Noble announced their new Nook with color display today in one of their Manhatten stores, as USA today reports. The electronic reading devices, which run on the Android platform, costs $249 and will be available on November 19 and Barnes & Noble is already accepting orders for the color nook.

The device has a 7-inch touch screen and weighs less then one pound. The 8 GB internal memory is enough to store 6,000 books.

One of the features that really stands out is the nook's ability to read books out loud.

The biggest competitor of the B&N nook used to be the Amazon kindle. The kindle is only available in black and white. With adding color to the screen, other devices are now also direct competitors of the nook, namely the Apple iPad.

While the nook has some functionality that resembles that of the iPad, it looks like the nook is more an e-reader then a computer. The nook has WiFi access and you can run apps on it. The nook also let's you play music and games. But playing games with an e-reader is probably a rather slow adventure.

Gold Price up After Weak Housing Report

Gold was trading softer in the morning while investors were waiting for the housing reports to come out. When the reports finally came out weaker then expected, gold prices immediately climbed and are gaining back what they lost in early morning trading.

The report showed that the housing market is still struggling. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (down 60 points) was down as a consequence, as well as the Nasdaq (down 18 points) and the S&P 500 index (down 6.4 points). While stocks are trading lower, gold continues to trade higher. Whether the gold prices will be up above yesterday's prices is not certain yet.

The housing report showed that the US home prices rose 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis from July to August. The 0.5% decline reported in July was revised to a drop of 0.7%, which added some concern over the housing market. The housing market was already negatively affected by the recent foreclosures scandal (via marketwatch.com).

U.S. house prices rose 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis from July to August, the Federal Housing Finance Agency reported Tuesday. The 0.5% decline reported in July was revised to a drop of 0.7%.

Investors Business Daily comments on the issue:

"Existing-home sales rose 10% in September to 4.53 million, following the worst summer for the housing market in more than a decade. Lawsuits over flawed foreclosure documents could keep buyers on the sidelines late this year, say industry insiders."

Based on this information, gold will continue to stay at current levels or climb up higher. Uncertainty concerning the future tends to send investors to gold and gold coins.

Paul the Octopus Died of Natural Causes - Lives on in iPad App

Paul the octopus has died peacefully in his sleep at his German aquarium. Paul became famous during the football World Cup for accurately predicting all eight games.

Before each game a plastic box containing a flag of the team and a treat were lowered into his tank. Paul then went ahead and opened the lid of one of the boxes and grabbing the mussel, which was serving as the treat. While both boxes did contain treats, he would only enjoy one of the treats and leave the other one alone.

The Oberhausen Sea Life Center aquarium issued an official statement, which said:

"Management and staff at the Oberhausen Sea Life Center were devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul, who achieved global renown during the recent World Cup, had passed away overnight."

Stefan Porwoll, the manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Center aquarium in Germany, said: "His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself."

By correctly predicting all eight games of the World Cup, including the final where Spain won over the Netherlands 1-0, the whole world was in awe.

"We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine."

"He appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes," said Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll.

Gold Price Gains on Weak US Dollar

Gold gained a littler during the day, about 1.14 % to be exact. Gold traded higher during the day and then lost some of its ground. Comex gold last traded up at $14.40 at $1,339.50 an ounce for December contracts. The price for spot gold was last noted at $1,340.00, up $11.60.

The G 20 meeting during the weekend did not bring any real decisions. That basically means that the U.S. dollar will continue to be weak. While gold got about 4% cheaper last week, the price of gold still remains 21% up for the year.

The main driving factors for gold are uncertainties concerning the economy and inflation.

One of the main reasons why investors just love gold, is its hedge against inflation. With money invested in gold, this investment might not "make" a lot of money, but it is very likely that it at least keeps its buying power.

One of Tiger Woods’ alleged mistresses, Loredana Jolie, has written a book, titled "The Real Diary: Lessons from the Good Time Girl to Champion".

Loredana Jolie was Playboys "Cyber Girls of the Week" in 2002.

Here are some quotes from her upcoming book:

"My diary also reveals intimate secrets and details that can save millions of people worldwide. I have slept with some of the wealthiest, most powerful people on the planet."

The examiner.com comments on this:

"It's unclear if Loredana Jolie is claiming that her book holds the secrets to curing AIDS or if she means to "save" her millions of readers money--sort of like 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' for hookers."

The book will also talk about Tiger Wood’s fantasies and intimate details about what happened in bed during their encounters over a two year period. The Dailymail.co.uk reports, “She claims in the book that he only paid her once for sex out of 20 encounters and that she fell in love with him during their two years together.”

If hollywooddame.com writes the truth, then Loredana Jolie blamed Elin, Tiger Wood's ex-wife, for Tiger's excursions.  Jolie said, "Obviously they didn’t have such a close relationship because if I was in his house where the hell was she? If I had my husband, I would make sure I knew who was coming to my house. At that point I started realizing it was more or less a financial reason they were married – she was in it for the money."

Well, the one who writes that should be a little careful about it. The reason why she got involved with Tiger was... well, in my book escorts or call girls or whatever you might call them work for cash.

Loredana Jolie also writes , based on collegenews.com, that Tiger Woods was supposedly taking sleeping pills and painkillers excessively.

The book is expected to come out in November.

Will you buy Loredana Jolie’s book? Do you believe her claims or do you believe she just wants to cash in from her experiences with Tiger? Whether or not you believe her, Tiger will have to deal with the stories she claims to be truth.

But maybe all this is just a made up rumor.

Lorenda Jolie, who is a better paid escort, based on hollywooddame.com, maybe only wants to become famous and just uses Tiger Woods to be pulled up, thinking one more mistress won't matter after Tiger was already allegedly connected to more then a dozen or so. Who knows.

Gold Price Recovers after Hitting 3-Week Low

The Gold Price slipped down to $1,316 on Friday in London, but swiftly crawled up $1,324, just a few dollars shy of the London early morning price. The 5.1% slide from last weeks all time high is a result of the Dollar being viewed as relatively more stable during the last few days.

The housing started to show economic recovery, which gave some stability to the overall weak dollar. The increased confidence in the dollar prompted some investors to take their profits from the recent gold rally.

But overall the world wide confidence in the dollar is probably not strong enough to let gold prices slip beyond some short term profit taking. Even is the U. S economy would recover completely, it is very unlikely that gold prices will lose all their gains of the recent months.

If the U.S. would decide to cease ALL war activities, then the price of gold might come down significantly, or at least reach some form of plateau. But even then gold would still be a good investment. There are other countries too that engage in stupid activities that create confusion and uncertainty for the future.

Juan Williams Got Fired From NPR

Juan Williams, a news analyst at National Public Radio, has been fired after making comments about Muslims.

Juan Williams told Bill O'Reilly' on "The O'Reilly Factor", as courant.com wrote:
"But when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations published a statement , which said:

"NPR should address the fact that one of its news analysts seems to believe that all airline passengers who are perceived to be Muslim can legitimately be viewed as security threats."

NPR agreed with the statement of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and stated that Juan Williams's view were not consistent with the view of NPR and subsequently fired Juan Williams.

Update:
A huge number of posts surfaced that justified Juan Williams's behavior and tried to explain why it was good and how Mr. Williams was allowed to say what he said. I sincerely hope that all of these yappers lose their job too.

It is plainly not OK, what some of these talking heads mumble in front of a camera. That at least one of those with a loose mouth got sacked is a good sign.

A little more tolerance for the religious views of others would help much more then speaking in broad generalities about Muslims or any other religion or religious group.

Rumors have it that Beyoncé is Pregnant With First Child.

Beyoncé pregnant? Based on different sources, Beyoncé is supposed to be pregnant. She married the rapper Jay-Z in 2008. That means the rumors could have some truth to it.

But at this point, it could not be verified where she is actually expecting her first child or not. Back in March, similar rumors that Beyoncé was pregnant were quickly nullified by the singer's rep. Now a source is supposed to have told UsMagazine.com about the pregnancy.

"B was shocked. She loves kids, but she wasn't ready to be a mother just yet," the so called insider told the magazine. "She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again."

Even though many sources seem to report the pregnancy, it is probably just another rumor. Unless there is an official statement from Beyoncée, you can file it under probably not true.

CBS News now also reports that it's true, but a rumor is still a rumor, even if many repeat the same rumor.

As eonline.com reports, Jay-Z did not respond to this. He is currently working on launching Decoded, which is an interactive game that runs on several platforms.

Goldman Sachs Earnings Decline

Goldman Sachs reported that its third quarter earnings fell to $1.9 billion, or $2.98 a share, from $3.19 billion, or $5.25, earned in last year's third quarter.

The company commented on the issue:

"The firm continues to manage its capital conservatively."

It looks like exactly that brought about the decline.

"Our third quarter result reflects solid performances across our business", said Lloyd Blankfein, Goldman’s Chief Executive Officer.

Somehow I get the idea that something is awfully wrong with this picture. Revenue goes down by 2 billion and the CEO says all is fine and dandy.

Trading and principal are the areas where Goldman Sachs is losing ground. If somebody would look into that swiftly, it could be handled and the company would be a star in regards to the fourth quarter results. But with just blaming the economy "...while economic condition continues to be challenging in numerous important markets..." nothing gets handled.

Goldman Sachs is large enough that they can make the economy instead of sitting on the sides and blaming it. Goldman Sachs has an average of 173 billion in excess liquidity. That is an awful lot of cash. To put it into perspective: The 2010 U.S. budget was $130 billion for overseas contingencies, primarily the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, or to compare it to another figure: The $173 billion is about one fourth of what the U.S. spends on social security per year.

If you are in this range, you can no longer blame the economy.

German Chancellor Incites Hate, Should be Arrested

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, captured headlines worldwide when she stated that Germany’s attempt at multiculturalism “has failed…totally” and that Muslim immigrants within Germany had made the country “more stupid” and less productive.  The conservative chancellor added that the Muslim immigrants needed to adopt Germany’s Christian values and culture, and also learn to speak German.  This incident should spark worldwide outrage and criticism and should, at the least, lead to the German Chancellor’s resignation, though it should ultimately end in her arrest.

Merkel’s comments were in direct reference to the increasing Turkish population within Germany’s borders, which now sits around 2.5 million.  The modern history of Turkish immigration to Germany began in the 1960s when, desperate for labor in the post-World War II economic boom, West Germany sought and received workers from Turkey.

The first fatal flaw in Chancellor Merkel’s political stance is the time frame.  Turkish citizens have only been assimilating into German society for fifty years.  Though, on a superficial glance, fifty years appears to be ample in length, a history of other countries highlights that it is not.  When the United States experienced a wave of Irish immigration in its infancy, it was common for Irish settlers to be greeted with “No Irish Need Apply” occupational opportunities and unequal treatment.  Though it took over a century, Irish-Americans eventually gained acceptance and lost the xenophobic image of uncivilized barbarians.  America’s history with African-Americans is even more brutal, and it took centuries for slavery to be abolished and Civil Rights established.  Though inequality still exists, America has taken significant strides.  For Germany to deem its multiculturalism a failure after fifty short years is not only shortsighted but, more importantly, dangerous.

What ultimately makes Merkel’s comments completely unacceptable lies in Germany’s history.  A public figure in any industrialized country would face scrutiny for telling an ethnic and religious minority that as a Christian nation, if the immigrants “don’t accept them [Christian values]” they also “don’t have a place here.”  However, in Germany such a statement is especially heinous.  Germany’s right to a second chance in terms of ethnic and cultural tolerance went up in flames with millions of innocents in camps such as Auschwitz.  Even more infuriating, such bigoted comments were actually made by a German leader in the same lifetime as the World World II generation who had fought so valiantly to end it there.

Chancellor Angela Merkel should not only resign as leader, she should be arrested.  Amid the German ruins after World War II, a new constitution was formed.  A constitution that would ensure such racially motivated and culturally insensitive atrocities would never again be repeated within Germany’s border.  Germany’s “Volksverhetzung,” or anti-hate speech law, was enacted for just such a reason.  For an individual to have broken this law, and ultimately serve a prison sentence of up to five years, an individual must be found guilty of disturbing the public peace in a manner that:

1.       incites hatred against segments of the population or calls for violent or arbitrary measures against them; or

2.       assaults the human dignity of others by insulting, maliciously maligning, or defaming segments of the population[]

Chancellor Merkel’s racial remarks against the intelligence and productivity of the Turkish minority within Germany is unacceptable, and the only remedy at Germany’s disposal is the public spectacle of her being lead to a prison cell in chains.

The Apple iPad will be available at Verizon stores nationwide starting Friday, October 28. There will be three different packages available.

John Lennon is among the most influential artists of the 20th century. The Beatles's music was instrumental for a whole generation and his early death is comparable to "killing a mockingbird".

John Lennon was born on 9 October 1940 and killed on 8 December 1980. He was an English singer-songwriter. Together with Paul McCartney he founded the Beatles who became the most successful band in the 20th century.

His death seems to have happened "by accident kind of" through the hands of a person who could be described as insane. John Lennon had quite some influence and it is very likely that he stepped on somebody's toes. He is not the only person that was shot apparently by some insane single killer.

Not that it proves anything, but it is rather interesting that the FBI seems to be still interested in John Lennon. As morningcity.com reports, that FBI agents have seized a form which John Lennon completed on May 8, 1976 when he was applying for U.S. Citizenship. That document still had the fingerprints of John Lennon and was about to be auctioned off.

Gold Falls as U.S. Dollar Rises Ending Gold’s Rally

On Thursday the gold prices went down as the U.S Dollar gains strength. The U.S payroll reports are coming out on Friday and they are expected to come out better then the month before. This will deliver support to the fairly weak dollar, at least for a short term. In regards to gold this means that confidence in the greenback turned investors away from gold, shifting funds into dollar based instruments or even cash. Marketwatch reports on Thursday evening: "Gold for December delivery (GCZ10 1,338, +2.70, +0.20%)  fell $12.70, or 0.9%, to $1,335 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange." “Gold has been trading as a currency,” said Frank Lesh to Marketwatch, a futures analyst at FuturePath Trading in Chicago, referring to the close ties between the performance of bullion futures and the U.S. currency market. “Gold is clearly reacting to the dollar trade, as it has and as it will.”

There are some signs of a bubble, but market experts do not see it bursting any time soon. There seems to be agreement that the prices will continue to climb, but not in one straight line. There will be many corrections and dips on the way up. It might be a good time to jump into gold. Be it in the form of bullion coins, gold bullion bars, numismatic gold coins or in certain cases even gold related stocks. But be careful if you are going to invest in paper gold. The risks are shy high. In any case, do your own research.

Gap Logo Creates Buzz

Update:

Only a few days after Gap showed off their new logo, they came to their senses and put the real logo back in place.

Gap got so much pressure from its customers, for example on their Facebook page, and from the design community, that they reverted back to the good old Gap logo.

Gap, the clothing retailer has recently changed their logo. Whenever there is a change, people start to get exasperated. That does not mean that anything is good or bad, it just means that there was a change. And usually the noise comes from people that could not care less. Either they never noticed how it was before or they do not even know the brand.

While it is true that a logo should not be changed, as it is the one thing that makes consumers recognize a brand, it is also true, that it really does not matter too much once a company is beyond a certain size.

In the case of Gap, it will add some publicity to their brand. As long as they do not change their name, it is unlikely that they will lose any customers.

Whether the old logo is better or the new one is clearly a matter of taste. But why they changed it in the first place is not known. Most likely some new guy or girl wanted to show their presence and tries to change whatever they get their hands on.

If that change is directly related to either surveys, where they found out that consumers hate the old logo and prefer to shop elsewhere or to some legal thing where maybe somebody tried to steal the brand by creating products similar to the old logo, then the change is completely fine.

In the case of some person trying to make something "better", it will most likely not hurt, but the move then would be considered dumb. At the time of writing this there were no statements from Gap available, aside from a post on Gap's Facebook page:

Most likely the noise will cease after a few days and after a while people will say:"You know what, I actually like the new logo".

Toni Braxton Bankrupt… Again

TMZ reports that Toni Braxton is supposedly again filing for bankruptcy protection. As the celeb site reports, this has not been the first time. Toni Braxton who is a very well known singer. One of her hits is  Unbreak My Heart.
